Love Language

How many of you know what your love language is? If you do, have you ever stopped to think about what God’s love language may be?

I believe God’s love language is quality time. Over and over again in His Word He tell us He will never leave us nor forsake us, He is always with us, and that nothing can separate us from His love. He actually wants us to live with Him for all of eternity. Can you imagine your children living with you for the rest of their lives? Forever is a long time to be spending with people! You know God’s love language has got to be quality time in order for Him to want that!

I also believe God’s love language is acts of service. He instructs us to serve Him with gladness and He tells us the greatest among us is the one who serves. Jesus Himself even said He came to serve and not to be served. He fed people, washed people’s feet, taught them, healed them, cast out demons, raised the dead, and so much more. That’s a whole lot of serving to say He wasn’t getting paid for it! His love language has got to be acts of service!

It’s interesting though, because He also says every good and perfect gift comes from Him. He gives us spiritual gifts. He gives us natural gifts. He’s given us the gift of His Holy Spirit. He even encourages us to store up treasures in heaven! Why? So we have more gifts waiting on us when we get there! He is the best gift-giver ever! No gift receipt necessary. His love language has got to be gifts!

Oh, but how many of you are like me and can’t get enough of His Word? It’s a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. His Word encourages us, directs us, instructs us, and reminds us who we are. It reassures us when we get discouraged. It strengthens us when we get weak. It helps to build our faith and it affirms us when we’re unsure. Wait a minute… That sounds a lot like words of affirmation to me!

Now that I think about it, Jesus was also a little touchy-feely. He was always touching people and people were always pressing through crowds trying to touch Him. He touched people’s eyes. He touched people’s hands. We already mentioned He touched people’s feet. He put His fingers in people’s ears. He touched people’s tongues. He even touched people with leprosy. That’s a whole lot of touching! And He even wants to touch us. Yeah… His love language has got to be physical touch.

Well, if you haven’t noticed, I believe God’s love language is all the love languages! How is that possible? Because God doesn’t just show love, He is love! And He expects us to be just like Him. You may receive love one way, but we need to learn to show love in many ways. It’s not enough to just know what your love language is. Find out the love language of others and start speaking their language fluently. Because the greatest of these is love!
