Unity

I just left the sweetest time of fellowship with some of the most amazing women I know! We laughed, we encouraged one another, we enjoyed God’s Word, and we had a powerful time united in prayer. We were in one accord – one heart, one mind, one purpose.

I believe there are so many people today living in isolation and struggling to connect with others because so few people are actually united. When each individual is selfishly pursuing their own agenda, unity is impossible. Selfishness always divides. It takes love to help us unite.

Even though people are slowly beginning to gather in larger groups again, that in itself will not produce connection. During quarantine so many people felt alone. If we just begin to gather again without working to be united, we will simply feel alone together. Unity must precede true connection.

Unity is oneness. To be untied means to be undivided. The Holy Trinity is our purest example of unity – three in One and in complete harmony. To be connected is to be linked and to be interdependent. We must surrender our independence and accept our need for interdependence if we want to walk in unity.

The Bible questions, “How can two walk together unless they agree?” How many of us would actually depend on someone we never agree with? It is impossible to walk hand-in-hand if you haven’t agreed to go in the same direction. But imagine if God’s people actually were united the way Jesus prayed we would be. There would be absolutely nothing we couldn’t accomplish for the Kingdom of God. So today, I encourage each of us to make the conscious decision to be unselfish, undivided, and united for the glory of God.
