Childlike Faith

This has been an absolutely amazing week for me! I’ve talked to several incredible people, enjoyed supernatural adventures, and experienced multiple new things. And even in the midst of all that, the one thing that touched me the most was one sweet conversation, that I had with one sweet friend, where she so innocently made one sweet comment to me, that has impacted me in ways she doesn’t even realize.

What was the comment she made that could have had such a profound effect? Well, after I had shared some of my stories and life experiences with her, she simply said, “Wow! You really have that child-like faith.” It stopped me in my tracks. One of the very things I was seeking, praying for the Lord to help me develop, unsure of what it actually looked like; here was someone else seeing it at work in me.

As I reflect on her words and what she could have possibly seen or heard that led her to this conclusion, all roads in my mind lead to freedom. I believe when we journey to a place of trusting in, relying on, and obeying God without being concerned about what anybody else may say or think; is the point where we can begin to approach our heavenly Father with the child-like faith of which the Bible speaks.

Think about the children you’ve encountered in your life. They love without judgment. They take you at your word and believe what you tell them. They aren’t afraid to ask for what they want. If you say you’re going to give it to them, not only do they believe you, but they keep reminding you until they receive it. They get excited about the smallest of things. If they notice they do something that makes you smile, they will do it over and over again. They try things most of us would never try and they’re willing to keep trying until they get it.

And fear… What is fear? When you’re standing there with your arms stretched out and you tell a child to jump, they jump without hesitation. They aren’t thinking about how scary it is. They’re thinking about how much fun it’s going to be! Because they trust you so much, fear never has a chance to enter their minds.

Imagine what it would be like if we would actually get to the point where we trust God so much that fear no longer has an affect on us and we are free to obey Him immediately – without hesitation. We will jump when He says jump. We’ll focus on how much fun our adventures with Him are rather than focusing on the scary unknown. We would believe everything He’s told us in His written Word and in His personal promises He’s spoken to us. We would love more deeply, give more generously, and forgive more quickly.

What is it that you do that makes your heavenly Father smile? Whatever it is, keep doing it. What has the Father asked you to do but you’ve been too afraid to try? Stop focusing on the fear and start focusing on the fun. Or maybe you tried to do what He asked you to do, but it didn’t seem to work. Persevere and keep trying until you get it. You are the apple of your Father’s eye and nothing pleases Him more than your child-like faith in Him.
