Prayer Prompts
Last trimester I had the opportunity to teach a class on prayer. One of the things I encouraged the students to do was to use natural things as prayer prompts. Different things we encounter in our everyday lives can serve as reminders to pray in general or about something we need to specifically focus in on. During this time of so much uncertainty, we as believers need to be praying now more than ever before. Not only do we need to be praying, but we need to be praying out the Word of God.
Just turn on the television, listen to the radio, check your email, text messages or social media and you will encounter countless possible prayer prompts. I’ll give you a few general examples and I’m sure the Holy Spirit will give you some additional specific ones. Every time you hear the following terms, instead of allowing them to plant seeds of fear allow them to serve as reminders to declare God’s Word.
Coronavirus: When we live our lives within the shadow of God Most High, our secret hiding place, we will always be shielded from harm. How then could evil prevail against us or disease infect us? (Psalm 91:9-10)
COVID-19: This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua-1:9)
Crisis: God is your confidence in times of crisis, keeping your heart at rest in every situation. (Proverbs 3:26)
Social Distancing: So now I live with the confidence that there is nothing in the universe with the power to separate us from God’s love. (Romans 8:38a)
Wash your Hands: The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior. (Psalm 24:4-5)
Sneeze Into Your Arm: Listen! The Lord’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is His ear too deaf to hear you call. (Isaiah 59:1)
Don’t Touch Face: So I say to my soul, “Don’t be discouraged. Don’t be disturbed. For I know my God will break through for me.” Then I’ll have plenty of reasons to praise Him all over again. Yes, living before His face is my saving grace! (Psalm 42:11)
Essentials: You’ve so graciously provided for my essential needs during this season of difficulty. (Philippians 4:14)
Jobs: And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)
Stay Home: “Return to your home and your family, and tell them all the wonderful things God has done for you.” (Luke 8:39a)
Homeschool: The Jewish leaders were astonished by what He taught and said, “How did this man acquire such knowledge? He wasn’t trained in our schools—who taught Him?” So Jesus responded, “I don’t teach my own ideas, but the truth revealed to me by the One who sent Me. (John 7:15-16)
Take Out: The wicked are taken out, gone for good, but the godly families shall live on. (Proverbs 12:7)
Drive Through: And these miracle signs will accompany those who believe: They will drive out demons in the power of My name. They will speak in tongues. (Mark 16:17)
Delivery: But keep your hope to the end and you will experience life and deliverance. (Matthew 24:13)
Sick: And the prayer of faith will heal the sick and the Lord will raise them up, and if they have committed sins they will be forgiven. (James 5:15)
Contagious: Your enthusiasm is contagious—it has stirred many of them to do likewise. (2 Corinthians 9:2c)
Death: For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
Remember, the prayers of the righteous availeth much. Remind God and yourself of the promises He’s made to you. Then, trust Him to fulfill His every Word.
