First Quarter

January, February, March

January, February, March

Is this what you thought the first quarter of 2021 was going to look like? Everybody was so excited that 2020 was finally over and that we all made it to a new year. We were all looking forward to a new beginning, a fresh start, and all the new and exciting things 2021 was going to have in store. The trees were blooming, the birds were singing, anticipation was high, and a glimpse of hope was starting to be restored. That was, until we realized, 2021 was still looking eerily similar to the year we were trying to escape.

Suddenly the light fades, expectancy wanes, and anticipation gradually gives in to disappointment. New things we initiated have already died and many of the old things we thought we left in 2020 are very much still alive. The good news is we’re still here and we have survived every single storm. The sad news is we’re just not really sure how much more of this we can take.

The coach in me pleads with the athlete in you… Get back in the game! Do not judge the ultimate outcome based on the first quarter. Don’t allow the current score to prevent you from going after the next point. If you’re still breathing, you still have more time left on the clock of life.

You were created to win. The only way you lose is if you give up. No weapon formed against you shall prosper, so don’t give in to the temptation to defeat yourself. Your opponent doesn’t fight fair. We’re not playing against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, and rulers of darkness. So, fight the good fight of faith. Let your light shine brighter than ever before. Put on the full armor of your uniform. Run the play in the fullness of the power that lives on the inside of you. Don’t shrink back against the enemy. Let him know you’re not afraid and you came to win!

We’re going into the second quarter and we’ve got the ball. The question now is… Are we going to score or are we just going to forfeit the game?
